Which Apps will Work on M1 Macbooks?
Applications usually work on a device based on the OS and system hardware architecture. That means applications running on the same OS may not work with devices with different system architecture. A classic example is the case of Intel and AMD computers. Some apps working on Intel-based PC on Windows may not work with AMD-based computers running on the same OS.
Similarly, Mac apps built on Intel’s x86 architecture won’t necessarily work or natively support ARM-based M1 Chips. Although you may find some apps run on both devices, you might find them buggy and laggy. To make their apps Apple silicon ready, developers will roll out updates in the future. But since it is a relatively new Apple hardware, it will take some time for the developers to fine-tune their apps and put them in the M1 compatible apps list. The case is not different in the case of M1 optimized games as well.

How to Check M1 Compatibility of Apps
To quickly check Apple M1 compatibility of apps, there are 4 methods:
- Using Command + I
- Using Silicon App
- Using Mac System Report
- Using IsAppleSiliconReady.com website
Now let’s deep dive into each of the methods.
1. Check M1 Compatible Apps using Command + I
- First off, launch the Finder and select Applications.
- Select the app, right-click and choose Get Info.
- Under General > Kind, you will whether it is Universal or Intel only.
- If it shows universal, then it is one of the apple silicon native apps.
2. Check M1 Supported Apps using Silicon App
- Download and install the Silicon App.
- Launch the app and update it if prompted.
- Click on the Start Scanning button.
- On the right side of each application, you can see whether it is Universal or Intel.
3. Check M1 Optimized Apps via Mac System Report
- Firstly, click on the Apple logo at the top left corner.
- Select About This Mac > System Report.
- From the left pane, choose Software > Applications.
- Under Kind, you can see whether the app is Apple Silicon or Intel.
- If it shows Apple Silicon, then you are lucky; the app is Apple silicon ready.
